Birth control pills are up to 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy, but only when the pills are used consistently and correctly every day. It sounds simple, but there are times when one or more pills will be missed for a number of reasons. When missing three days in a tow it's important to take an active pill as soon as you remember, and then continue taking pills daily. You may want to use a condom for additional protection until you are back to your regular schedule or abstain from sex until you have taken seven active pills in a row. In terms of your period, your cycle may be disrupted or change temporarily due to the missed pills and/or the stress from missing pills, but that is hard to predict exactly.
