Hello Anon

Thank you for writing. I'm sorry you're dealing with oral thrush, it's a very uncomfortable condition.

Steroids can be a cause of thrush.

According to the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health (NIH), those who are at risk for oral thrush include the following:

• Being very young
• Being very old
• Being in poor health
• Receiving cancer treatment
• Receiving treatment for an organ transplant
• Weakened immune system (HIV, AIDS, etc.)
• Taking steroid medication
• Taking antibiotic medication
• Diabetics
• People who wear loose-fitting dentures

Treatment for oral thrush will depend on your age.General treatment for oral thrush may include 5-10 days of lozenges or an antifungal mouthwash. It seems like nothing seems to be working for you, however.

Medications that are active against yeast, include:

Nystatin
Clotrimazole
Miconazole
Gentian violet (occasionally)

Treatment of Underlying Medical Conditions
Underlying conditions that may contribute to thrush can be identified and treated.

Proper Oral Hygiene
Oral hygiene practices that may aid in healing include:

Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water
Gently scraping off patches with a toothbrush

Anon, have you tried any of the above medications?

Best,
Susan
