Did this come on suddenly? If so it could be an allergic reaction to something.  Leg swelling generally occurs because of an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues of the lower extremity. The medical term for leg swelling from excessive fluid in the tissues is peripheral edema.  Being overweight can decrease blood circulation, causing fluid to build up in the feet, legs, and ankles. Standing or sitting for long periods can also cause swelling.  When the muscles are inactive, they can't pump body fluids back up toward the heart. The retention of water and blood can cause swelling in the legs. There is no way for us to know what is causing your legs to swell. See your doctor for an evaluation.
