Hi Anon!

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! The link you provided was not available so unfortunately, I was unable to read it.

You are not alone when it comes to parents worrying about the effects of technology on our children, especially digital devices!

An increased amount of time spent on digital devices have led to eye strain, even in kids. Also note that the smaller the device, the greater the strain.

Symptoms you should look for in your children are

-dry, red and irritated eyes

-fatigue

-eye strain

-blurry vision

-problems focusing

-frequent headaches

-neck and shoulder pain.

Here are some suggestions: Limit screen time, take breaks and use lubricating eye drops.

Anon, as a parent myself, I am also concerned about how my children are learning interpersonal skills and building their communication skills. Will our children be able to communicate face to face or on the phone in 10, 20 years when their preferred method of communicating is texting? Just something else to think about.

I suggest limiting time on devices and taking frequent breaks will both help our children physically as well as emotionally.

Hope this helps!

Kristin
