Save money and slow the pace by taking a day or two to hang out at the beach. Every one of Hawaii’s beaches is free and open to the public.
While on the island of Oahu, check out the buffet supper menu offered at many of the hotels on Waikiki Beach. Check out happy hour specials, lunch deals and lesser known local restaurants. Eat a big meal at lunch and pay less.
If you will be staying on any of the other islands, rent a car. Look for one with the best mileage per gallon. Get a map of the island from the front desk, visit a local market and pack a picnic lunch, and tour the island on your own.
Find a local market near your hotel. Pick up snacks and beverages for a mid day snack or light supper. It will be much less expensive than visiting the bar or restaurant in your hotel.
