Thank you for this excellent article. Far too many people think that smoking = lung cancer, and therefore if you don't smoke you will not get lung cancer. I used to think that too, until I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. I was never a smoker and never lived with smokers. As the author so wisely points out, "While you can lower your risk of developing lung cancer, you cannot prevent it." Sure, it would be great to prevent all lung cancer, but since it has numerous varied causes, many of which we may not even know yet, we must also focus on treating ALL people with lung cancer, and erasing the stigma that comes with this disease. We need more research into this disease to increase the pitiful survival rate.
