Hi Missie... Thank you so much for your comments. I'm glad your mother is a survivor and doing well. If there are other women in your family who have had breast or ovarian cancer, you may want to ask your doctor if testing for the BRCA gene mutation is appropriate for you. For women who have the gene mutation but who have not yet developed cancer, there are things that you can do to lessen your risk of developing breast/ovarian cancer. If I'd known I had that risk factor in my health history, I'd have definitely explored some of those options.
