Supraventricular tachycardia ( SVT) is a rapid heart rate that is caused by electrical impulses that originate above the heart's ventricles.

Certain medications can cause SVT. These include very high levels of digoxin, theophylline, weight loss medications,cold and allergy medications, and excessive use of medications used to treat certain thyroid problems.

Exercise, fever, stress or being upset may trigger an SVT episode. Smoking, drinking too much alcohol and too much caffeine can trigger an attack.
