The best way to deal with heavy periods - menstrual cups.
These hold more flow than tampons and pads combined, they also have light suction to prevent leaking - they leak half as much as tampons/pads and even if they do leak it's lighter leaking than with tampons/pads. Unlike tampons cups are safe to wear overnight, before your period, with any flow and for up to 12 hours without risk of TSS or infections so more convenient. Cups may even help to lessen flow and cramps in comparison to tampons.

If you are a woman who 'suffers' from heavy flow it doesn't always mean there is a problem and there are various methods to help lighten flow from medications from your doctor through to herbal treatments, dietary changes, supplements, and even treatment such as chiropractic care or emotional support can help. Solutions your doctor may not suggest or even know about - do your research.

Often doctors suggest the pill as a 'quick-fix' to suppress your cycles (bleeding on the pill is not the same as having your period), this does not always work and in the long-run this isn't the best option as at best it just hides the underlying cause, and so it certainly shouldn't be the first option...demand testing and treatment then if all else fails consider hormonal birth control as a means of menstrual management.
