Dr. Oz really, really overreacted to a small polyp that is common in about 1 in 3 people over 60, a little less common in men his age. Of course, it is critical to find them and remove them, but 9 out of 10 don't ever become cancer. The hoopla over his polyp and a looming risk of cancer just scares people.

One reason that people give for not getting screened is that they're afraid that cancer will be found.

Of course, Dr. Oz's arrogance about his diet and lifestyle protecting him against cancer is a warning to us all. Screening for colorectal cancer is important for everyone, beginning at age 50.
