Hi kr13kie-

This can be a very frustrating problem, because sometimes it is difficult to figure out just what the problem is. We have a page on painful intercourse, which is technically called dyspareunia: https://www.empowher.com/media/reference/dyspareunia

One of the most frustrating parts of this pain is that sometimes you begin to anticipate it, sort of clenching in preparation. This is called vaginismus. There are things you can try besides lubrication to see what helps. https://www.empowher.com/media/reference/vaginismus

Look at both the pages and see if there is any intervention or exercise you have not yet tried. Another source of information on this issue is the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. http://www.acog.org/publications/patient_education/bp020.cfm

If the problem doesn't resolve, please get back in touch with the gynecologist so together you can look at the problem in depth and see if you can find an answer. Good luck to you.
