At home, in school and in the workplace. 3 out of 3. Its a wonder I made it to age 50. I've always preferred to take the high road, but now I can show my teeth if a bully looms in sight and they seem to have backed off the older I get. I've always been rather independant and have a generally happy nature, thus making me a perfect target for the controlling bully personality. Bullies seethe with jealousy and a deep primal desire for power over another human being. They want to 'teach you a lesson' and not only will pick a fight with you but expect you to play by their rules. (They can be conniving and cunning, but are actually quite stupid and illogical). They form allies with others who have similar chips on their shoulders. I was always rather proud of the fact that a bully could sniff me out and come after me. I enjoyed thumbing my nose at them, once they declared their true colors. You must learn to use a bully's weakness against him/her just as they try to use yours. They are, after all, weaker than you, in some important ways. For instance, bullies do not have much empathy for others, which is one reason why they can be so cruel. Yet, they do not like others doing to them what they do to others. Exploit this to the fullest, if you ever want to get them off your case. Sometimes it does not work and you have to leave - a job, a school, a home. But targets do not have to be miserable; and they can rise above their less civilized fellow human beings. It does take some doing, though. You must always keep your sanity and self-worth in a very deep place within, where the bully)s) can not reach it.
