12/30/12 Hey, this procedure saved my life. I suffered for years with bleeding until I was going to pass out, and relentless pain every 3 weeks with cramping from hell. Anyway all my other doctors told me some women just have a "harder" time. Ya. Well none of my female friends or family was bleeding to death, and bleeding all over the place at work. It was gross. U can imagine. I had never been able to get pregnant (probably because my lining was 5x thicker than it was supposed to be. Finally I met a doctor who took me seriously, and did an ultrasound. Gee-she found the problem right away! (endometrial hyperplasia) I had to make the agonizing choice of doing the procedure, or a hysterectomy. My Doc said I was lucky. She said ten years ago I would have just been flat out told I needed a hysterectomy and that would have been it. I won't lie, the night after the procedure was bad, I pretty much read like the rest of the folks here and had to deal with the watery discharge and whatnot for a month. Of course I never had a period like I had previously, if u really need this-you will know what i mean. It has been around 4 yrs. since my procedure and all I have are very light periods, and I skip some days. I feel so much better- I was able to exercise more, and when a friend had breast cancer, I was able to train for a half marathon and run with a group to support her. In about a year, I lost 60 lbs just from running (something I never had the energy to do while anemic) and in April I will be running my 5th half marathon. (I will just be turning 40) Anyway before I had the procedure a Doctor told me I might choose to wear an adult diaper (seriously) since tampons and pads together weren't cutting it. Now I wear a pantyliner, and I only need to change it for cleanliness, not because it is over saturated. Before I would go through a bag of pads in one weeks worth of periods (plus several tampons), and now a small box of liners will last me months! Oh and did I mention-I don't have to take ibuprofen like candy for pain anymore? And also I forgot why I didn't own any white pants, dresses, shorts, or skirts. Now I can wear what I want, and also not worry about making a mess on my chair at work, or at someone else's house! You all who suffer my heart goes out to you. I feel and look so much better. Even my husband has remarked that I look "pink" instead of pale now. I am grateful that I had this option. It's not perfect, but I am sure a Hell of a lot better off for it!
