My son is 11 yrs old. He is in 5th grade but not mature enough but, he is aware of the difference in bodies. He has had friends that are a yr older saying thing's. Since he has been 7 he wakes up with a erection...."Oh boy" He was and is aware of it and got embarrassed. I told him that it is normal that it happen's and that I day he will learn more about his body but, If he had any question's to please come to myself or Dad.... . He is behind in school and is in a Special Ed class of 10 children. The school this Feb 2010 will have the film on sex ed. I had mention to my husband when did your Dad speak with you? He said "he never did" ??? His parents are in there mid 60"s and my husband is 36.The only thing his Mom learned was her period...Dad ???
Now as far as myself my Mom spoke to me when I was 10-11 when I got "my friend"...It was nice and not alot about "sex" it was that you need to wait for the right time and before you do something come to me and than we can finish "the talk"....Having an open door policy was the best thing my Mom could of done for me. We are close still to this day. I ended up having to take birth control at age 15 due to period issue's. My Mom and the Dr spoke first, than my Mom right there in the Dr's office rm had" the second part of the talk" Now this is not an open door for sexual relationship's" Mom new that I had a serious boyfriend at the time and asked that I wait as long as possible. Mom still asked that if I had question's about intercourse to come to her. The Dr had talked to me about condoms and STD's. I had sex at age 16 my senior yr of school with the man I married. Cute or what...lol :)
The question I do have is...
Is there an example of "a talk" for a Dad and son that could help my husband? I tried to help him but he get's all weird on me and I want my husband to have a great open door policy like I did with my Mom. Do you think I should be part of this and intervein or what?
