Hi Angela! Your situation sounds like mine.... I had a car accident which shattered my ankle and resulted in the deterioration of my joint. I was left with no cartilage and bones rubbing for years until I couldn't walk anymore & had Ankle fusion surgery on my right ankle in April 2010, resulting in the loss of my teaching job.
I still have pain, and now don't have insurance, so I'm not sure of what it feels like if a screw is loose, but it does sound like you need to go to the doctor, if you can. I do feel better when I wear my boot, even this far after my surgery.
I really appreciate the advice about the shoes. I tried to have a pair of shoes altered with a special rocker bottom, but it didn't really make a difference. I am going to go out tomorrow and see if I can find a pair!
What do you teach? I am afraid to go back to teaching b/c I still have so much pain.
