I figured you were not on birth control since you said you had "unprotected sex".

Protected or safer sex (from pregnancy) would indicate that you were using a form of birth control. Protected sex from pregnancy AND STDs would include using a condom.

No...taking birth control or not would not make your period late. Using emergency contraception can cause an irregular period for a cycle (maybe two), so just make sure you are counting DAYS not DATES on a calendar to know if your period is really "late" or not. As long as the first day of one period...counting to the first day of your next period is between 21-35 days, then your period is just irregular and not "late".

Does that make sense?
