I am 45 years old and have been in perimenopause for 2 years now. My biggest symptom has been severe frequent migraines that are often unbearable. I was also experiencing mild occasional hot flashes. I was also getting joint pain daily and bad moods way more often than usual. For those worried about migraines and the MSG, I say give it a try. I started Amberen in February and am still on it. It helps me so much, especially with my migraines and mood swings. I missed a dose last week and had a huge migraine the next day. My doctor (endocrinologist) says it is safe, but didn't expect it to help me much. I will see my neurologist on Monday and plan to tell him how much better I am doing on this product. My only concern is that I should be going off of it for awhile, but I am worried that the migraines will come back with a vengeance. I also had endometriosis over 10 years ago and am a bit worried about whether or not that may reappear. Oh, and I also should note that I tried bio-identical hormones for 6 months last year, and they did not help me nearly as much as the Amberen. I am glad to not be on hormone replacement, but am still unsure as some of you are, about long term effects since it is such a new product. For now, however, having migraine relief is like having a new lease on life and I am just hoping that I continue to do well.
