I have had a similar pain in my right hip only when I sleep at night, too. I'm 38 and have experienced this pain for approx. 6 months. Until recently, it's felt like the tendons/muscles on my right side were being stretched to the max. Now, I just feel pain inside the muscle at the bone. I went to a physical therapist a month ago, who told me that I have Bursitis. Even though I was going to PT for my back, she alternated between working on my back and my hip. Some nights I didn't feel the pain and some nights I did. Overall, I would say PT didn't work for me.

Last night was the worst night ever for me - pain-wise. I barely slept. Today I finally looked up Bursitis and made an appointment with an Orthopedic Surgeon. I encourage everyone to look into Bursitis as a possible explanation for your (hip) pain.
