One of the EmpowHER moderators mentioned that something as simple as an old mattress can contribute to joint pain, and cause you to wake up in the middle of the night. Have you considered this as a source?
Also, since you sit for long periods of the day, do you have a chair that is ergonomically fit to your body, as well as your work station? Something as seemingly simple as your posture, computer height (or chair or desk height), a foot stool can provide comfort to your joints, and the reverse can actually cause pain. The same can be said for wearing the right kind of shoes..do you wear high heels often?
If all else fails, do you feel that you may have arthritis or other condition of your joints? Do any of these types of conditions run in your family, or do you have any risk factors for arthritis? Here is some more information regarding osteoarthritis, but this is just to "rule out" any additional symptoms: EmpowHER: Osteoarthritis: Risk Factors
* Obesity
* Genetic factors
* Injury to the joint surface
* Occupations and physical activities that put stress on joints
* Neuromuscular disorders like diabetes
Symptoms:
* Mild to severe pain in a joint, especially after overuse or long periods of inactivity, such as sitting for a long time
* Creaking or grating sound in the joint
* Swelling, stiffness, limited movement of the joint, especially in the morning
* Weakness in muscles around the sore joint
* Deformity of the joint
