If you simply go back two answers ago of mine you will find your answer to the condom question. Virtually every question asked here has alrady been answered already but when you get to 25 pages it's a lot to read.
I have had HPV for 25 years , had 2 invasive cancers and precancers involving the cervix, vagina, vulva and anus as well. Everyone should just go out and get my book "Any Mother's Daughter" which is endorsed by and the foreword written by Harald zur Hausen, MD who received teh 2008 Nobel Prize forhis discovery that HPV causes cervical cancer. I am a freelance writer also and was asked by the organizers to give a presentation at last year's International Papillomavirus Conference in Berlin Germany. My site: thehpvsupportnetwork.org offers pages of resources, referrals, articles, video clips and a lot of other information everyone would find useful. Issues regarding shame, guilt, dealing with emotional issues are also covered in my bood and are a significant part of dealing with HPV. You can also contact me directly with questions if you wish.
But once again to answer the question HPV DOES NOT (NOT) go away permanently, it only goes dormant but most people will never make this distinction when telling you this. Once you have the virus you have it, PERIOD! Anyone asking again isn't going to change that fact unfortunately. It can and does often become dormant usually within 2 years and no you don't have to remain celibate but do read my reply above about codoms. It can remain dormant for months, years or even decades but you will still have the virus so don't ben fooled. Many women also think if they get the vaccine they don't need to worry about HPV.Obviously not true. With over 14 strains of HPV which are known to cause cancer the vaccine only cover 2 high risk strains (the most common) so you can always get another less prominent strains. As for the woman who has a positive HPV but mentoned nothing about a Pap or those results I fail to understand why you are having a colposcopy with only a positive hpv result and no pap. Did you have a pap? If so what were the results? If not a colposcpy is not indicated at this time based on the guidelines but to wait and watch.
