Hello. I am a 38-year-old mother of four. I just had a baby five months ago and at three months I began giving him mostly formula. I do still breastfeed, but it's mostly through the night. After I stopped breastfeeding regularly, I got my first menses. As expected, it wasn't my usual type of menses - it was short, light, and not painful at all. My typical menses are about 10 days, quite heavy with large clots, and very painful for the first four days. Exactly 28 days later I got my next menses, which was closer to my norm; heavy flow (no clots, though), lasted 9 days, with just little cramping. When trying to have my last son, I began tracking for ovulation and found that my cycles are about evey 28-29 days with ovulation on about day 13-14. I've never missed a period unless pregnant, so I'm quite regular.

On day 10 of my cycle, my husband and I had unprotected intercourse. We're not trying to conceive, but took a chance because if it happens we wouldn't mind ;) At any rate, about five days later I began having uterine pain that I assumed was ovulation pain, except it is not one-sided and it is still present today. I am now on about day 17-18 into my cycle and my entire uterus hurts/aches intermittently. It sometimes feels like it is contracting. I have what's called a heart shaped uterus (or septation) and I always contract a lot throughout my pregnancies, so I am quite familiar with uterine contractions and what they feel like.

I know pregnancy is possible, although chances are slim, but I do not think this is what's going on. Could this possibly be a symptom of uterine cancer or some other GYN issue? I will not visit my GYN until pregnancy is completely ruled out. Unfortunately, it took two miscarriages and a year for us to have our newest son (I have four now; never miscarried until I turned 36 and OB thought that to be the reason, but turns I have protein C deficiency and just got lucky with my first three sons), and with all three recent pregnancies I was able to get a positive pregnancy test on day 22-23 of my cycle, so I will wait until a week after that to go see my doctor.

In the meantime, do you have any ideas? I apologize for the length of this...just wanted to give as much info as possible. Your help is greatly appreciated!
