Hi,
I just wanted to add to the great information Diane gave you.

You did not mention if you missed any birth control pills, just that you are having some unusual symptoms.

If you did not miss any birth control pills, then you actually had PROTECTED sex with your boyfriend (against pregnancy, not against STDs). Unprotected sex means sex without use of any type of birth control (pill, ring, condom, IUD, etc).

The pill, when used consistently and correctly, is about 99% effective at preventing pregnancy (without a condom).

You are right--women who use the pill are protected against pregnancy because it works by:
- preventing ovulation
- changing uterine lining (making it less inhabitable by fertilized egg)
- changing cervical mucus (making it more difficult for sperm to travel into uterus)

A woman can conceivable ovulate while taking the pill, that is why it is not 100% effective, but at 99% effectiveness rate...this is very rare.

Lastly, if you are expecting your "period" (women do not have periods while on the pill, when you bleed during your inactive pills it is actually "withdrawal bleeding". Women need to ovulate in order to have a period) in two weeks, than any symptoms you are experiencing now are likely unrelated to a pregnancy. You are probably experiencing "breakthrough bleeding" which is any bleeding in-between your expected period (or withdrawal bleeding) days, and this is common when taking hormonal contraception.

does this help?
