I have heard the same thing, basically if there is too much Omega-6 in your blood and not enough Omega-3s it can cause the blood to thicken which can be bad if left too far out of balance and vice versa if you are getting too much Omega-3s and not enough Omega-6 it can cause your blood to thin to much. many people have been shown to have a terribly out of balance 20 to 1 ratio Omega-6 to Omega-3s when it should really be more between 1 to 1 and 4 to 1.
