IUD contraceptives are Toxic Pesticides!

*Levonorgestrel in IUD is Toxic Pesticide!is Toxic Pesticide!

The intrauterine system (IUS) is a long acting reversible hormonal contraceptive device that is placed in the uterus. An IUS has a hormone cylinder that releases a progestin (progestogen) called levonorgestrel. The only brand currently available is the T-frame LNG-20 IUS, marketed as Mirena Coil by * Schering Health and * Berlex Laboratories (*Bayer).

The term IUS is used in the United Kingdom to distinguish the hormonal intrauterine contraceptive from copper-based intrauterine devices (IUDs). In the United States, all intrauterine contraceptives are referred to with the term IUD.

Progestasert was the first hormonal uterine device, developed in 1976 and manufactured until 2001. It released progesterone, was replaced annually, and had a failure rate of 2% per year.As of 2007,

the LNG-20 IUS - marketed as Mirena by Bayer - is the only IntraUterine System available. First introduced in 1990, it releases levonorgestrel (a progestogen) and may be used for five years

Norgestrel

Norgestrel is a progestin used in hormonal contraceptives. Norgestrel is a mixture of two stereoisomers, dextro-norgestrel (CAS# 797-64- and levo-norgestrel (CAS# 797-63-7). Only levonorgestrel is biologically active. Therefore, while some medications may contain dextronorgestrel, they are often labeled in terms of their levonorgestrel content only, ignoring the inert isomer.

Mechanisms of contraceptionThe Mirena (*IUD) is intended to initially release a daily dose of 20 micrograms levonorgestrel (a progestin).

Reproductive and developmental toxicitySome pesticides are known to cause birth defects or interfere with normal development. Weight-of-the-evidence evaluations of this type of toxicity have been conducted by the State of California and by the U.S. EPA under its Toxics Release Inventory program.

Many pesticides that disrupt endocrine functions also cause reproductive and developmental harm, as well as other adverse effects.

California Proposition 65 ListPesticides determined by the state of California to cause reproductive and developmental harm, e.g., birth defects, infertility, sterility and impairment of normal growth and development.

A list of chemicals "known to the State to cause reproductive and developmental toxicity" is maintained by the State of California under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65).
