Patti explains how grateful she is to have had a friend advocating for her health after she was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and while dealing with a cerebrospinal fluid leak (CFL).
Patti:
I do realize that people can have advocates in the hospital for them and how important that is, but when it is one of your dearest friends that comes forward to, that comes to bat for you and when she is caring for you is caring for you like you’re dearest friend and your mom, your sister and all of that rolled into one.
I know that if I could ever do that for somebody I would because what it means to you when you are there and you are helpless and you cannot defend yourself and basically that’s what it is – it is defending yourself and get the care you need, but when somebody comes in to do that for you, spends the night, makes sure you get what you need and talks to the doctors on your behalf, and puts you more important than anything she is doing or thinking about at that point, you are so thankful. I really know in my heart that Michelle saved my life. She did.
