Dr. Wright shares how cancer patients can find wise, reliable counsel.

Dr. Wright:
Identifying wise counsel is always an important thing to do and it’s a challenge. You want to really look in your heart and in your mind. And who is that person with whom you can be your most candid self without a fear of alienating them?

People very often become afraid of cancer patients and you have to help them not be afraid, but you have to be unafraid yourself, and wise counsel is the one that will help you make that bridge.

So look to your family: Who has experience, perhaps? Who is a cancer survivor? Who do you know who has been through illness? Be candid about the strength that is required, especially during the healing process and the treatment process. So seeking counsel with people you can be honest with that will not generate any sense of guilt is really important, and people who you trust as being wise.
