Dr. Harness discusses if he commonly encounters breast cancer patients who have already had ovarian cancer.
Dr. Harness, M.D.:
It’s not common to see breast cancer patients with ovarian cancer. If both occur, they absolutely have to be tested for BRCA-1 or 2, but even importantly, if there’s a family history in the patient with breast cancer of having relatives that have had both breast and ovarian cancer, those patients need to be seen by a genetic counselor and probably tested for BRCA-1 or 2.
