My name is Rebekah. I am a law professor at a law school here in Florida. I am an avid cyclist.
When I came down to Florida I was able to cycle, but that became more difficult. I had difficulty getting on the bike. Everyday activity got more difficult. I thought to myself, ‘Why can’t you put your own shoes on and get dressed?’
Those things kept happening over and over; I couldn’t really do the things I wanted to do. Emotionally, well, it kind of wears on you after a while.
The hip pain impacted not just myself, but the people around me such as my husband, family, friends.
You shouldn’t have to walk like an 80 year old when you’re only 43.
Rebekah had her left hip replaced, and the next month she had her right hip replaced.
The recovery rehabilitation process from after the surgery was far easier than I had anticipated. It was very remarkable to recognize how much I was able to do in a very short period of time.
I can now jump on a bike all by myself and go off, and that’s very remarkable.
