Myth #4: Medication is the only treatment

Although medication plays a vital role in treating bipolar disorder, it is not the only treatment that can be used.

Adapting a healthy lifestyle regimen plays a vital role in the recovery process, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Diet, exercise and sleep, along with developing effective coping skills and having a support network, can benefit a person going through treatment.

We have come a long way from early beliefs that mental illness was a result of supernatural phenomena, and resorting to brutal treatments.

However, to this day, we sometimes fall into negative attitudes and misconceptions about mental illnesses that can make it harder for people to reach out for help. One such example is bipolar disorder.
