Support Groups An Asset in Weight Loss

Judy Tanielian has been a nurse for almost forty years. For the past six years she has also been a Clinical Director of Bariatric Surgery programs.

In her years of experience, she has seen that patients who take part in support groups before and after surgery have greater success in losing weight. It's not unusual for patients after their surgery, to lose their taste for the unhealthy foods they were drawn to before.

The power of a support group is inestimable. The sense of community that comes from sharing with other patients helps to equip patients for the new lifestyle they're trying to build. Judy Tanielian does what she can to nurture this.

"She graduated with honors from Portland Community College’s Associate Degree Registered Nursing program in 1973. She served as a nurse at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in The Oregon Burn Center for twenty two years, filling a variety of roles from bedside care to management. While at Legacy, Judy was awarded her Bachelor’s Degree with honors, through Excelsior College."
