Mellanie explains where women can find information about atrial fibrillation.

Mellanie:
Well, for one thing, once I was cured of atrial fibrillation in knew that I couldn’t stand on the sidelines and watch others suffer with it. So I created stopafib.org which is a resource for patients, by patients. So stopafib.org has a tremendous amount of resource. A lot of information about what every A-fib patient should know and what their family members should know, but equally important – we keep up with the latest findings, the latest research, the latest studies, and publish news stories about all of the latest information that patients need to know about A-fib.

We also have a blog – the atrial fibrillation blog, it’s atrialfibrillationblog.com, and there we post information, events and opinion pieces. That’s where we get into things like, does stress cause A-fib? Does exercise cause A-fib? Does caffeine cause A-fib? and many other similar things and that’s an opportunity for patients to share their own stories of what their experiences are in those areas.

We have recently also brought up a discussion forum and that’s accessible through the stopafib.org home page. We are exploring how patients can join with other like-minded A-fib patients to talk about topics that are of interest to them.
So, first of all we have there some local support groups. So, let’s say you are in Portland, Oregon or at Dallas Fort Worth and you want to find others in your area and discuss things related specifically to your area, that’s where you can find information and join with other like-minded folks and hopefully get together in-person as well to share your experiences and sometimes just to share a hug because we A-fib patients need a hug from each other, from those who really understand what we are going through.

Also on the discussion forum we have specific topics such as A-fib and exercise. There’s a subgroup just focused to that topic. A-fib and sleep apnea, A-fib and acupuncture, and young A-fibbers, also those who have valvular A-fib or their A-fib was related to mitral valve issues or other valve issues. So those are great places to discuss with others who have a similar situation to yourself, things that are of concern to you.
