Dr. Wang:
The spinal facets are located in the back of the spine. That’s the articulation where one segment rubs on the other segment and so it’s a joint, just like a hip joint or a knee joint. Whenever you get arthritis in that joint and it’s in the facets, we call it facet arthritis.

Dr. Jeffrey Wang, M.D., is the Chief of Spine Surgery and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Neurology at the UCLA School of Medicine. He specializes in all spine disorders in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar area.
