Dr. Shukla outlines the electrical system tests for the heart.

Dr. Shukla:
The way I would kind of outline it is diagnostic is the electrophysiologic study, we then provoke the arrhythmia so the diagnostic is "I want to look and study your electrical system, identify the abnormality." If there is a slow heart rhythm disorder, we generally treat those types of disorders with pacemakers or device therapy.

If there are fast heart rhythm disorders, they can be amenable to catheter mapping which localizes the arrhythmia and then following that, once the arrhythmia is localized, we could then use ablation technology to deliver energy and burn it out and thereby cure the arrhythmia.
