Heather describes why she used to believe she was in control of her life when she was an alcoholic.

Heather:
I went to talk to somebody who is now my sponsor and she asked me one question. She asked me, “Do you believe that you are an alcoholic and that your life has become unmanageable?”

And I said yes to the first part, but I couldn’t answer the second part because I still had my house. I still had my car, and today I can answer yes to both of those questions because even though I still had those things, the next month I wouldn’t have.

It’s called a yet. You never know what’s going to happen. I could have crashed my car if I would have stayed in Vegas and continued doing what I was doing. I could have lost my car. I could have lost my house. I could have lost my entire family. I could have lost all the friends that I hadn’t already. I could have lost everything. I’m one of the lucky ones that was able to see the yets and not everybody gets that. Some people have to fall really hard.
