Dr. Lewis describes her inspiration to work with patients who are HIV and AIDS positive.

Dr. Lewis:
I often times get asked why I am working here, why I work at the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS. This is such a challenging work and the reason that I am here every day working is because I am absolutely committed to helping those individuals who struggle and fight to deal with a stigmatized disease where unlike many diseases, they feel like they can get the care they need in the way that they need to get it. They get the emotional support that they need. They get the physical support, the financial support, but with HIV and AIDS because of the stigma it is completely different.

And so it is my job to advocate and to make sure that they have the resources that they need to get cared for in the way that will help them to live as long as they possibly can and to keep their quality of life as high as it can be for as long as they are living.
