Advice For Women With HIV

Rate This

Darkina provides advice for HIV positive women and those who have their own health and wellness complications.

If you are recently diagnosed with HIV, immediately get yourself a support group. Immediately get around people that’s like yourself. Don’t act like it’s the end of the world because it’s not the end of the world.

You look at your life immediate like you have a positive life. It’s not the disease which is what you do with the disease. So go into any kind of support group, go around people that’s like yourself. The more stories you hear, the more support you have, the better you will feel.

The advice I would give another woman today is number one, you’ve got to learn to love yourself – that is number one, that to me is everything because love is god and god is love. That right there is number one. If you do not love yourself you can’t love your husband, your children, no way, you can’t love them more than you love yourself, but if you love yourself today it’s going to trickle right on down to everyone else. That’s what I know for today is that I got to continue to love myself and I have to take care of me.

I am going to take care of me and I am not going to take care no one else, and this goes for my children too. It’s not about my children today; it’s about me today and as long as I keep it about me and I take care of me, it’s about them because I am taking care of me and that’s the life that I live today.

I am a graduate student of West Chester University’s Master of Social Work program. I am interested in recruiting participants for a qualitative study on the emotional experience of a HIV+ person wanting to bear a child. The participant must be either in the planning stages of conception, currently pregnant, or recently had a child within the last two months. If interested email [email protected]
