Dr. Kharazmi shares what he looks for in a woman that could indicate adrenal failure.
Dr. Kharazmi:
That’s really good question and a lot of people bring that up because there’s a syndrome called Adrenal Burnout syndrome and what that means is that, when you have an individual who really depends on the adrenal gland to produce a lot of stress hormones and with a prolonged exposure to stress, could be physiologic, environmental, psychological, then the adrenal glands kind of peter out and so, what that means is, that they are not able to undergo physiologic stressors anymore.
If you put them through a stressful condition their body collapses, they cannot respond appropriately. They may feel excessive fatigue, they may feel that they get dizzy easily; they may feel they get dehydrated very easily. What happens is that because of excessive stress physiologic and again, environmental perhaps or even psychological, they really pooped out their adrenal glands.
That’s different from what other conditions we call like adrenal insufficiency secondary to autoimmune conditions. That’s more common and it’s easier to diagnose. The adrenal insufficiency occurring secondary to a burnout, adrenal burnout syndrome is a lot more common frankly and is not as commonly diagnosed and is actually missed.

Dr. Mohammad Kharazmi serves as the anti-aging medicine specialist at the Genetic Institute of Anti-Aging in Costa Mesa, California.
