Dr. Berger explains the connection between women's hormone replacement therapy and acne.
Dr. Tim Berger: There is a form of acne that occurs around the time of menopause and it maybe that in the ovary, when the eggs are gone, the other ovarian tissues can actually still make some hormone and that maybe a sort of more male hormone than female hormone. So, hormone replacement therapy usually improves acne rather than worsening it because it sort of suppresses that effect. So, there is a form of acne that occurs around menopause, but it is not related to the hormone replacement.
